George Bernard Shaw said, “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I do not believe in circumstances.”

The fact is, many people are reactive. They choose to let outside influences, such as moods, feelings, and circumstances, control how they react to life. They blame outside events or other people for their choices. By default, their choices focus them on things they cannot control, leaving them with less time and energy to spend on things they could have influenced. They are always looking for someone or something to make them feel better about themselves. The only problem with waiting for something good to happen is problems seem to multiply when you are not part of the solution!

Far fewer people, on the other hand, are proactive. Proactive people choose to respond to situations and circumstances, not react to them. They intentionally choose to focus on what they can influence – things like their knowledge, experiences, faithfulness, and trustworthiness – and do not worry about things they cannot change. They recognize they are response-able and therefore, choose to grow through whatever they go through. Instead of reacting to life (by default), they choose to respond to life (by design). Because of their initiative, they naturally take the lead in word and deed, always sowing a seed in the face of a need!

Choose to be proactive. When you are proactive, you can make good things happen even in the worst of situations!
