I want to challenge you today to work IT out! What is IT? Fear. Just as in the Christmas Story, every individual that was involved had fear they had to work out.
- Zacharias and Elizabeth – There was fear after the announcement that they would have a son named John, he would be the forerunner to Jesus. There should have been joy, but there was fear.
- Mary and Joseph – The same angel that visited Zacharias and Elizabeth, Gabriel, told Mary that she was blessed and highly favored with the Lord. He told her that she was chosen by God to give birth to the Messiah. Mary and Joseph were engaged; Mary was a virgin. She was fearful and expressed it, the angel told her not to be afraid. Joseph feared for Mary and her reputation. He wanted to send her away, but the angel visited him and told him what God wanted him to do. Joseph was fearful.
- The Wise Men and Herod – The Wise Men in searching for the baby Jesus, asked Herod where was the new born King, the King of Kings. Herod was fearful, he was a King.
- The shepherds – The shepherds were in the field tending to their sheep, watching the flocks doing their job and an angel appears. The shepherds are frightened. The angel said, “Do not be afraid.” Then an army of angels praised God, Glory to God in the highest heaven,” they sang, and peace on earth for all those pleasing him.”
Everything that surrounded the birth of Jesus had fear attached to it. Everyone had to deal with their fear.
My challenge to you today is to deal with a form of fear, scarcity. Scarcity is a mentality of lack, not having enough of something. You could fear the lack of money…security…food…resources for business a multitude of things.
There are three things that I practice to overcome a scarcity mentality.
- Gratitude…Count your blessings one-by-one. In this season be grateful. Express to those around you what you are grateful for about them. Be grateful!
- Get rid of the “trash” bins that are holding you back…Get rid of whatever the trash is in your mind that causes fear. Allow people to help you. Align yourself with the right people that will challenge you.
- Be willing to be uncomfortable…Get out of your comfort zone. Do something today that stretches you, that challenges you, that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Unlock your God-given potential.
