“Success is almost totally dependent upon drive and persistence. The extra energy required to make another effort or try another approach is the secret of winning.” – Denis Waitley

Nothing worth doing or having comes to us without some degree of initiative or intentional act of receiving – in other words, it takes effort!

As a child, God blessed me with agility, speed, and athletic ability. I liked the idea of being the first to cross the finish line … I liked winning! One of the things I learned from track and field events is that there are two kinds of effort involved in winning. The first kind of effort involves immediate, short-term bursts of energy and is often used in crisis or crunch moments.  The second kind of effort involves sustained discipline, practice, and energy output over time.

Although they are different in kind, there is a key principle that connects them: The more a person engages in sustained effort, the more capable he/she is of successfully manifesting on-demand, short-term bursts of effort.

Awareness of this principle is important. Why? Because winning at life requires effort – both kinds of effort!
