What do you spend most of your time thinking about? Have you ever paused, taken a step back, and analyzed what’s running through your mind? Most people do not. They simply go with the flow, just thinking what and how they have always thought.

“As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  Proverbs 23:7, KJV

A snapshot of our thoughts gives us a picture of the content of our hearts, and what we hold in our hearts serves as the ground, seed, and fertilizer for what grows into our attitudes, actions, and habits. Our habits establish our character which ultimately determines our destiny.

So, why am I asking you what you think about? Because…

“A man is what he thinks about all day long.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

A good analysis of our thoughts includes looking at both what we think about and how we think. We may be preoccupied with concerns about our kids, conflict with our spouses or friends, the expectations of a boss, or a hundred other worries. Or, we may daydream about escaping our problems by taking a cruise, heading to the mountains, or playing the perfect game of golf. Remember the old Southwest airlines ad campaign, “Wanna get away?”

You begin to Discover your God-given greatness when you take ownership of your Thinking. The first step toward ownership is understanding you can consciously control your thoughts. Yes, some would say that we can’t control our thoughts. To some extent, that’s true … but Martin Luther once said, “We can’t keep a bird from flying over our heads, but we can keep it from building a nest in our hair!”

“When you elevate your thinking, you elevate your life.”

What can you do today to make better choices about what you think and how you think?
