Has anyone ever told you, “I’ll tell you what the problem is”, or “I’ll tell you what I don’t like”?
The reality is that most people are wired to identify and focus on the problems or obstacles that hold them back from what they really want in life. If you ask them they can readily list the problems or obstacles they are facing at any moment. They are prepared to catalog the details of the problem, express the frustration they feel about the problem, even rehearse the story of how they first discovered the problem. In short, their focus is on the problem to the extent that it has become all that they see and they are bound in chains of inactivity or wasted effort.
“Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining – it bores everybody else, does you no good, and doesn’t solve any problems.” – Zig Ziglar
The truth is that every problem contains within it the seed of the solutions. What’s more, if you have no problems then you have no seeds! We should never wish for a problem free life! How terrible would that be?! Every problem solved, every negative circumstance overcome is a rung on the ladder of success!
The key then is to be a solutions minded thinker. Instead of dissecting the problem to understand how impossible it is, study the problem with creative eyes that are looking for the seed that will unlock the next wrung.
What problem in your life can you begin to see as an opportunity? On closer examination of the problem, what seeds can you identify that will help you overcome it? How can making the most of this opportunity advance you, grow you, and propel you to the next level?
Don’t think problem, think opportunity!
