This past weekend, we held Elevate Life Church’s fifteenth annual Leadership Weekend. Since our inception, I have placed emphasis on what I call “The 4 Pillars of Elevate Life.” Each pillar represents a strategic area of focus – Marriage, Men, Women, and Leadership. Although each of these is part of the ongoing impartation at Elevate Life, we dedicate one weekend every year to bring an elevated emphasis to each. This strategic focus has enabled us to establish a transformational culture that impacts and influences the world with the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel!
I have created a series of blog entries that will give you an inside peek to some of what was covered during our Leadership Weekend. As we embark on this several week journey, we begin with entries on the What of Leadership. It will be followed by entries on the Why of Leadership and then wind down with some entries on the Who of Leadership.
What is leadership? It is one of the most talked about topics today … and yet, it is one of the least understood.
“One of the most universal cravings of our time is a hunger for compelling and creative leadership. Leadership is one of the most observed and least understood phenomenon on earth.” – James McGregor Burns
So, what is leadership? I define it as:
- influence.
- a way of intuitively thinking.
- the capacity to translate vision into reality.
- the result of a passionate desire to BE better (grow) that ultimately attracts people who want to be better.
- the capacity of an individual to grow and advance personally that creates an ability to empower others to do the same.
- the Think, Be, Do that determines everything you have in life.
Leadership begins with self-leadership. You must first learn to lead yourself. Then, and only then, will you be able to effectively lead others.
Do you have a passionate desire to reach your full, God-given potential? If so, what are you doing to personally develop and grow? Do have you a learning agenda – a personal growth and development plan – to help you get there?
