There are many reasons for which people resist change, these are just a few:

  • Fear that the change will make things worse.
  • Lack of Trust in the person who is initiating the change.
  • Self-Interest – not understanding what’s in it for me
  • Identity – seeing themselves in the light of the way things have always been
  • Competence – maybe they don’t feel they have what it takes to be apart of the change
  • Disagreement – they think the change proposed is a bad idea

For the leader, change is a way of life.

Any change requires two major things:

  1. Faith in the Vision
  2. Relationship with those who are going to be part of the change.

To be a Change-Agent, people must believe in you sometimes more than they believe in themselves. That requires relationships that have been nurtured by the Change-Agent. Whether a parent or a business professional, change is often seen as heretical and therefore the Change-Agent must be seen in a positive light. The people following you must believe that you have their best interest in mind.
