Normal thinkers struggle with their direction in life, and many times feel broken because they don’t correct themselves enough. If you will correct yourself when you need correction, you will direct yourself when you need direction.
As Pietro Aretino said,
I am, indeed, a king, because I know how to rule myself.
In the book series; Game of Thrones, there is a throne called the Iron Throne. It was made from the swords surrendered by the king’s enemies.
The Iron Throne is full of spikes and jagged edges and twisted metal. It is uncomfortable, and the back is fanged with steel which makes leaning back impossible. The king had it made this way deliberately, saying that a king should never sit easy.
This is a powerful metaphor for self leadership. If we are ruling ourselves, we shouldn’t ever allow ourselves to “sit easy.” Ruling yourself requires you to make yourself uncomfortable and embrace the conflict that comes with going beyond normal!
