Today’s proverb of the day is: Proverbs 26
Proverbs 26:13 ESV
The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! There is a lion in the streets!”
How many of us have excuses for why we don’t do things? Why we don’t go to the gym, why we don’t eat healthy today, why we don’t show up to that optional meeting called by our boss.
When Proverbs talks about a lion being in the streets, that’s referring to us refusing to do what needs to be done based on an excuse. Even in Bible times, I’m pretty sure it would have been hard to find a lion in the street of a city, but how often do we find a reason for not doing something that we know needs to get done?
Matthew Henry, in his commentary of the Bible, says it this way:
The slothful man hates every thing that requires care and labour.
A lot of times, we can have a hard enough time doing what needs to be done when we have a legitimate excuse! So, we can’t afford to fabricate an excuse for why work can’t be completed.
Start today. Do something right now that you’ve been making excuses for, and see how good you feel.
P.S. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, one for every day of the month, I want to encourage you to take 15 minutes a day and spend time growing and developing your capacity for wisdom.
