Several years ago, I heard someone say, “Oh, don’t listen to him. He’s a negaholic!” Before that time I had heard people described as alcoholics, drugoholics and sexoholics, but this was a new term. Now, I have met hundreds of them – people who are “hooked” on pessimism to such a degree that they perpetually see the worst. Over time, a negative habit can become an addiction that takes control of your thinking, your emotions and your behavior. Much like compulsive overeating or drug abuse, anything can become addictive by nature.

Is there negativity in your life – maybe in your words, your thoughts, and/or your actions? English heart surgeon Martyn Lloyd-Jones asserted, “Most unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself rather than talking to yourself.” Do you listen to yourself? Or, do you talk to yourself? Your self-talk will determine whether you think negative or positive thoughts and whether you feel bad or good. How you frame your words will be how you frame your world – negative or positive.

One thing I know for sure, negative thoughts do not produce positive results! So, when you hear yourself being negative, stop and reject it. Speak positive things over your situations, circumstances, and life. Your words have the power to elevate your thinking and when you elevate your thinking, you elevate your life. So, be proactively POSITIVE today!
