When you think of peace, what comes to mind? Calm? Serenity?

But when we think of Biblical Peace, the definition goes beyond just peace of mind. The Greek word for Peace is eirene. It is defined as, wholeness that leads to wellness of life; right relationship and harmony with other people; victory over one’s enemies; prosperity, success and fulfillment; and knowing God is with you and for you and will always work all things together for your good!

It’s easy to imagine everyone wanting Peace. But it’s hard to imagine – with life’s many challenges – many people saying they have it. So, how can we make Peace happen?

Don’t let your heart be troubled…you’ve been given the gift of peace.

You may be familiar with the story of Jesus found in Mark 4:35-31 when He was crossing over to the other side in a boat with the disciples and a storm came upon them.

“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

The Peace that Jesus gives is not the absence of trouble, but rather is the confidence that He is there with you always, and will somehow work all things together for your good (Leadershipology.com). We ALL face trials and tribulation in our lives. The more problems we face, the more chaotic and confused our lives become; but, the problems and turmoil are temporary. Jesus offers us a GIFT of peace that only comes through faith in Him. It is greater than anything we experience in our daily lives.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NLT

Tomorrow, I will share some more thoughts on how to make peace happen.
