God has called us to do 3 things:

  • Grow up in all things
  • Help other people grow up in all things
  • To Cause growth in the Kingdom of God

This week, my focus has been more specifically, the second call, help other people grow up in all things. Paul helps us out and gives us the commands in Ephesians 4:2-3. Paul starts with, “always be humble”. That is where the deeper focus is on humility. We have to humble ourselves in order to help other people grow up in all things.

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” -Proverbs 16:25

If we are going to help other people GROW Up, really help them, we have to give up our right to be right. If we are going to help other people GROW Up, we have to mature.

Humility is a primary characteristic of maturity in Christ. Jesus was not born humble, He had to choose to be humble for the purpose of helping others grow. Paul explains this in his letter to the Philippians:

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. “

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” -Philippians 2:3-11 NLT

Every time you put the interests of others before yourself, you are humbling yourself into maturity. More importantly, you are taking on the attitude of Christ. As you humble yourself to serve others, you are putting yourself in a position to be elevated by God!

Make it your goal today to honor God by serving somebody. As you humble yourself to help others grow, you will not only mature yourself, but God will honor you!
