This week we have been looking at five characteristics all successful people have – vision, goals, belief, and learning. Today we will introduce the fifth characteristic all successful people share: Persistence.

As a leader, you will encounter adversity. When you do, the eyes of those you lead will be watching how you respond. Will you demonstrate persistence or will you fold? As unpleasant as the rough patches of life can be, they represent the greatest opportunity to a higher level of influence. Life knocks us down to see who among us will get up and move forward. When you consistently push past obstacles, rebound from setbacks, get up each time you have fallen, you are proving your worthiness to be out front. Successful people are persistent. They do not bend to difficult circumstances, they use them to fuel their influence!

Life resists our advances… but just like in weight training, resistance builds strength in those who persist. The reality of leadership involves hard work, energy, sweat and sometimes tears. There may be times when you feel like giving up. It is what you choose to do in these moments – to either persist or fade into the background – that distinguishes your leadership. Successful people are persistent. They do not bend to difficult circumstances, they use them to fuel their influence!

· “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” – President Calvin Coolidge

We model persistence by refusing to give up when we are running into the headwinds of life. And in doing so, we give people something to respect and God something to work with! Remember, successful people are persistent. They do not bend to difficult circumstances, they use them to fuel their influence!

· Who is watching when you go through tough times?
· How can you inspire them by the way you act?
· What will they learn by watching you?

Begin today being consistently persistent!
