Yesterday, I shared the second characteristic of successful people: having written goals. Successful people use goals to turn lofty ambitions into consistent action and a compelling vision into reality! Today, we are looking at the third characteristic of successful people: belief. Successful people believe they will be successful. They minimize thoughts of fear, uncertainty, doubt, and other negative emotions.

Belief is not the absence of doubt, it’s the willingness to take action in spite of doubt. It is the fuel that propels our achievement and determines the measure of our impact! What you believe is what you achieve. Here are a number of people whose significant progress began with belief… as you read through the list, think about how the world might be different today if they had lacked belief.

· Christopher Columbus believed that the world was round.
· Abraham Lincoln believed slavery should be emancipated.
· Susan B. Anthony believed women should be able to vote.
· James Salk believed polio could be cured.
· Orville and Wilbur Wright believed that man could fly.
· John F. Kennedy believed that man could reach the moon.

We all have great possibilities and an abundance of untapped potential but many of us struggle to believe in our potential. A lack of belief is the adversary of progress. Without it, you will never be able to achieve the results you desire. My dad, Jim Craft, taught me, “You can’t hit if you don’t swing!” Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you do not take.”

Ultimately, what you believe determines what you perceive. What you perceive determines what you conceive. What you conceive gives birth to what you ACHIEVE! What you believe is more important than what anyone will ever tell you. Remember, you are not who you think you are. You are not who other people think you are. You are not even who you think other people think you are… you are who God says you are!
