Honor: True nobleness of mind that expresses value and respect with words and actions; to elevate from the inside out with dignity by giving value while simultaneously despoiling what is dishonoring and mean spirited.
Honor is the key principle that makes everything in life work the way God intended.
I believe everything begins and ends with honor. We are supposed to learn honor from the practice we get as children with honoring our parents.
“Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” – Ephesians 6:2,3
God makes no other specific promises with any of the other commandments, but when it comes to honor, He says…
- It is “right” to honor your parents because they gave us life.
A very important lesson here, is that it is “right” to give honor to WHO and WHAT gave you life and gives you life. God desires we learn honor early in life because if we don’t, the next two things which are the promise won’t happen. What is the Promise of Honor?
- “That it may be well with you…” Well means, you will be well off in life. Another way of saying that is it is God’s will that you prosper. (3 John2)
- “You may live long on the earth…” God wants you to live long and be healthy because the longer you live, the more impact and influence you can potentially have. God wants you to have influence because He wants mankind, His sons and daughters, to know Him and make Him known. If we die young and have no influence, we do not have or engage in the privilege to extend our/His legacy on the earth.
God wants to bless you. God wants to honor you. God wants you to be prosperous and live a long, healthy life, which is His gift to you. It is what we do with our life, that is our gift back to God. The enemy of your soul does not want you to get HONOR, because he doesn’t want you to give HONOR. Your enemy, the devil, does not want you to be “well off” nor does he want you to “live long!” His goal is to take you out, make you ineffective and to be cursed with insignificance!
Understand today: the enemy cannot do anything about YOU giving and showing honor. Honor becomes an antidote from the devil being able to stop the purpose and progress of God in your life. You can change your life… your circumstances and most importantly your future, by getting a Spirit of Honor back in your life.
