I don’t know anyone who likes delays. There are all kinds of delays that we deal with from traffic delays to cancelled flights. Those delays are small compared to being delays for a job, promotion, meeting the person of our dreams, or just being at a certain place in life that seems elusive at best.
We get frustrated because most of us think we are ready…when WE are ready. We believe we are ready to be married. Ready for children. Ready for that “thing” around the corner in our lives that is going to make our lives better.
I am reminded about the children of Israel that thought they were ready to come out of the bondage of the Egyptians after 400 years. God had promised them a land flowing with milk and honey. What was supposed to take 11 days, took 40 years. Talk about a delay!
If we could really understand that God’s delays are not God’s denials. The next time you experience a delay, it just may be that God is trying to show you a better way. Not so you won’t go the same way, but maybe so you won’t be the same way you have always been so you keep getting in life what you always have gotten.
God’s delays are never meant to deter you but to detour you.
The next time you feel like your life is in a delay pattern consider doing the following:
- Pray – Ask God if there is something He wants to show you.
- De-fray – Rather than being frustrated, be open to God’s process that will bring about his progress!
- Pay – You’re delayed anyway, look for someone to serve. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Pay it forward!
