Today, in America, we celebrate Independence Day!

It was 240 years ago today, July 4, 1776, that America declared its independence. But even after declaring independence, the colonists continued to stand and fight for freedom until 1783 – the year the British finally accepted and recognized the United States of America.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Like the colonists, we have to declare our freedom and be determined to stand against the enemy of our souls. We have to stand and fight for the freedom and peace that He has promised.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. – 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NKJV)

Once the colonists signed the Declaration of Independence, they spread the word by reading it aloud in public and publishing it in the newspapers. They declared and celebrated it … even though they remained in the midst of the battle.

“You have been set free from sin…” Romans 6:18 (NIV)

Today, no matter what battle you may be facing, declare that you are free! Stand for and celebrate your freedom!
