When our children were young, we decided to create a family mission statement. We met and had a great discussion, agreeing that as members of the Craft family, we would always strive to be our best – our best for God, ourselves, and others. We crystallized our discussion into the following statement: “Don’t Allow the Good to Be Robber of the Best.” It was engraved on our kitchen table so that we, as a family, would be reminded of it every day.

This has been our mission statement now for well over 20 years. Today, it is engraved on my wedding ring and now, on my son’s. It is in many other places, as well, reminding us each day of our commitment to be the best we can each be.

God doesn’t want us to be people that are so focused on right and wrong that we miss what He wants us to get – AND that’s not being able to differentiate between good and bad (evil) but between GOOD and BEST! The book of Proverbs says, “There’s a way that seems right to a man, but in the end that way is death.” In life, there is definitely right and wrong – there’s a good way to live and there’s a bad way to live. But according to God, there’s a best way to live!

Many things in life are acceptable. Fewer things are good. Only one thing can be called best. Wisdom asks the question, “What is best?” and empowers us to implement the will of God in any and every situation!

Seek to be wise and choose what’s BEST!
