What is the difference between being efficient and being effective?

Efficient says: “Do things right.” It is about doing things in an optimal way, for example doing it the fastest or in the least expensive way. It could be the wrong thing, but it was done optimally.

Effective says: “Do the right things.” It is about doing the right task, completing activities and achieving goals.

Both are important. However, if you focus only on being efficient, you can become efficient at being ineffective!

Jesus speaks about people who say, “We did good things in your name, even miraculous things.” He says to them, “You didn’t do the right things.”The message is clear. In your life you can work hard. You can make a good living. You can provide for your family. You can make sure they are clothed and all their physical needs are met. This is called efficiency; doing things right. But, if you do no have a proper foundation in your own heart and life, you may spend your whole life doing the wrong things in a way you feel is right.“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end its way is death.” Proverbs 14:12
