Someone asked me what I considered to be the elements of a truly great life? I came up with what I titled “The Special Life.” I presented the seven traits below, and gave solid explanations and illustrations for each. I am presenting this list to you now as a means of helping you ask the right questions to make sure you are on a road of noble values and worthy goals.
- Serving. Are you daily serving the people around you – those in your family and workplace, community and church? The right road for you is going to be a road that challenges you to become a Servant Leader, using all of your gifts, talents, and personality to inspire greatness in others.
- Passion. Do you wake up each morning with an eagerness to embrace the day ahead of you? Do you feel privileged to “get” to do what you “have” to do? Do you chase after opportunities, or do you run from obligations? The right road will be one you are excited to travel!
- Excellence. Are you on a constant quest for the BEST? Do you refuse to settle for mediocrity? The right road will take you upward, not just onward.
- Consistency. Does your life display stead-fastness, a continual and abiding pursuit of quality? Are you in alignment with others around you, not only in the performance of tasks, but in relationship? The right road will be fulfilling and satisfying.
- Initiative. Do you pursue solutions to problems you encounter, or seek to outrun problems before they overtake you? The right road will call to you, “Come see what is around the next bend!”
- Attitude. Do you choose, as an act of your will, to remain optimistic and faith-filled even in the midst of chaos or crisis? The right road will be one you are quick to encourage others to take.
- Love. To love is to give. Are you seeking to be a solution- finder, an energy producer, and a generous giver of your talent, time, and treasure? The right road will be one you will want to travel with others.
Take the first letter of each of these above seven elements and you will have the word SPECIAL. Live out these elements and you will have a special life!
