Today I want to encourage you to be an encourager! With so many people in the world telling us we can’t succeed, we need to hear people telling us we can. Often, the difference between success and failure is belief … and often that belief is instilled in us by someone who encouraged us. Leadership, after all, is a transfer of belief.
“How do you know if a man needs encouragement? If he is breathing.” –Truett Cathy, the Founder, Chick-Fil-A
When you encourage others, you incite people to action and hope. Jesus has given each person His glory for the purpose of giving it to others. John 17:22 in the New King James Bible says: “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.” The best part of every person is the God part of us … the unique deposit of glory He has given us. When you encourage others, you are giving the best part of you – the God in you – to others.

The word encouragement is defined in my 1828 Webster’s Dictionary as: to give or increase confidence of success; to inspire with spirit of strength of mind. It is the display of your health of Character and Competence.
· Character – You show strength of Character when you can recognize strengths in another person you can be grateful for. However, you must first see greatness in yourself before seeing the greatness is another. We may in fact, judge another person’s greatness out of our own insecurity.
· Competence – If you are good at what you do and have confidence, you can recognize another person who is good at what they do. Greatness recognizes greatness, competency recognizes competency, authenticity recognizes authenticity.
Decide to be that person who instills a positive belief in someone who needs to hear your encouraging words. Uplift someone who is feeling down. Fuel your team with your positive energy. Rally others to focus on what is possible rather than what seems impossible.
Share encouragement … it matters and we all need it!
