Honor: to revere with exalted thoughts: to show respect with words and actions; to esteem with value; to confer (contribute) dignity (degree of excellence)
In Psalm 8, David was obviously overwhelmed in the most positive sense with honor for God. He says in verse 3-5:
“When I consider Your heavens, and the works of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.”
Honor is a crown that God gives.
God wants us to “get” or understand honor because He has crowned us with honor. If we don’t show honor, we lose our crown…our authority to bestow honor. We also lose our capacity to receive honor. One of the revelations of honor is that by giving honor to God and others, you are not only operating in an authority that God has “crowned” you with, but you are operating in your most created in God’s image…God-like state that you could operate in. God wants us to be like him! We are created in His image to Think…Be and Do life like him.
Honor is a call we answer.
The Call to Honor is the call to:
- Honor the Lord with your heart (Matthew 6:21)
- Honor your father and your mother (Ephesians 6:2)
- Honor the God’s delegated authorities in your life (Romans 13:1-7)
- Honor the Lord with your first-fruits (Proverbs. 3:9-12)
- Become a Vessel of Honor for God (2 Timothy 2:19-21)
- Honor others before yourself (Romans 12:9-21)
- FRIENDSHIP
My encouragement to you today is to PRACTICE giving honor. Put your “honor crown” on. If it is tarnished, wipe it off, by giving honor!
