Tennyson said, “I am a part of all that I have met.”
No one becomes who they are without the influence of other people. We are more than a product of our environment. We are a product of people we choose to go through life with.
1 Corinthians 15:33 says:
“Don’t be misled; Bad company corrupts good character.”
The opposite is true as well: good company shapes great character.
The people you choose to align your life with reveal how you think. So on the surface, you can have the appearance of making the right decisions. You go to school, get good enough grades to graduate and because of a particular competency that may come natural, you get a good job.
But the true test of who you are as a person is not based on your competency. The test of who you are is the people you choose to do life with.
Having a good job might mean that you are the right person for the job; but for most people, that has nothing to do with their character.
Your competency or talent might get you a great job, but what will cause you to flourish will be your character. And your character will be a direct result of the people you decide to align your life with.
You will never be the right person until you line up with the right people.
