God created every person with a spirit, soul and body. Many people recognize that they need to develop their spirit. I have grown up in church, and seen many spiritual people who read their bible, attended church regularly, prayed and considered themselves to be good Christians, but responded emotionally the same way as people who weren’t Christians.

In America, $20 billion is spent each year on weight loss, and over 100 million people are on a diet at any given time. (Source) There are workout facilities in every hotel and in every city because people are aware of the importance of fitness and yet, no matter how someone improves their body they may never feel better about themselves.

When it comes to emotions, a lot of us have been wounded by some type of dysfunctional relationship and hurt. Many of us never mature in our emotions because we feel powerless to do so, and yet, when a person decides to be healthy emotionally; they become a gift to everyone they come in contact with.

When a person is emotionally healthy they are celebrated, when we are emotionally unhealthy, we are tolerated.

Here are 10 ways to move towards emotional health starting right now:

  1. Acknowledge your need for God.
  2. Ask God to forgive you of whatever you have done wrong.
  3. Believe that God loves you no matter what.
  4. Forgive those who have wronged you.
  5. Refuse to be negative. (even if it’s the truth!)
  6. Refuse to be offended by what could offend you.
  7. Depersonalize criticism and choose to grow from it
  8. Commit your life to personal growth and development. (Which means listening to feedback/criticism without offense)
  9. Release bitterness about anyone or anything.
  10. Seek to add value to everyone’s life that you come in contact with.

Think about your EQ and what you can do to be healthy so that you can give the greatest gift you have to give, a healthy you!
