“Blind spots are the parts of you that you don’t see, that keep you from being all you can be.”Leadershipology.com

Have you ever been driving a car and come upon a slow-moving truck? The only way to get around it is to change lanes. You turn on your blinker, glance in your mirrors, and begin to change lanes. Suddenly, you hear the blast of a horn from behind you. You swerve back into your lane and ask yourself, where did that car come from? The honking car was in a blind spot. To have overcome the blind spot, you needed to look in your mirrors and turn your head to see beyond the mirror’s field of view.

Blind spots are not limited to driving … we have them in other areas of life, too.

Our blind spots are often obvious to others, but oblivious to us. They are invisible areas of our lives that build invisible walls around us, causing visible success or outcomes to elude us. They are the parts of you that you don’t see, that keep you from being all you can be. Blind spots are limiting factors that can render you stoppable, rather than being the unstoppable force you were created to be.

The good news … blind spots can be overcome! I use the acronym NEWS to do just that. It reopens people’s eyes and hearts to renewed possibility. Here are the four “NEWS” steps.

  • N is for Nirvana.Nirvana is the capacity to feel joy in the midst of a very difficult situation. Nirvana asks the question, “What is possible?” I ask, “What does God say is possible?
  • E is for Experience. With experience in mind, ask yourself, “How can we retain what works and how can we revive what has worked?” A good understanding of our own experience is necessary if we are going to overcome our blind spots.
  • W is for Wisdom. Wisdom asks the question, “What is best?” Ultimately, the BEST things are positive, hope-filled, and godly.
  • S is for Surface. Most people live at a surface level. They take in only as much life as their senses can hold. The questions we must ask at the surface level of life are: What is? What was? What is best? What is possible?

The fact is everybody has Blind Spots … but not everybody deals with them.

Use NEWS to see more, so you can be more!
