The strategy and tactics around clock management always intrigues me about sports … except for baseball and tennis, of course, which operate without a clock. Ten seconds left in a basketball game is an eternity, especially if you are only down by one. Two minutes left in a football game, if the score is close, can be an eternity.
Time takes on a whole different meaning when it comes to sports … and it should in the game of life, too!
We each have 1,440 minutes in a day. So, over the course of a day, two minutes and surely ten seconds is anything but an eternity. But our approach to time is radically altered when it comes to specific moments. Think about it in your life, not just in sports … when you are waiting for something important, hours or even days can seem like years.
In sports, it is not always the best team that wins a big game. Rather, it is often the team that keeps its cool under pressure, executes, and most importantly, makes the most of the time given. The team that knows the importance of clock management and leverages it is the team that often wins. There is power in clock management!
Successful people are those who have learned to take moments of time and make them successful.
If and when we see our lives in this way, we can employ clock management as a tool to help us become be the best we can be … a true champion of the most important game around … life!
