One of the greatest statements ever published, in my opinion, was by Erma Bombeck in her essay entitled, “If I Had My Life to Live Over.” The statement reads, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope I did not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.'” I agree!  Several months after reading Bombeck’s essay, I decided to write my own version of it. Here it is.
If Today WAS the First Day of the Rest of My Life…
If today was the first day of the rest of my life, I would want
to live with the wisdom of knowing what matters most.

I would want to start with a clean slate, yet be consciously
aware of the difference between good and great.

I would want the people I care about to know,
that is really all I care about.

I would want to Discover, Develop, and Deploy my passion
with people and not ever be misunderstood.

I would walk more strategically with a limp
and be more aware of my strut.

I would want to know what connects people deeply
with God and seek to connect with them in God.

I would want to speak healing words to mend broken hearts.

I would want to inspire the best in every person.

I would want my, “I love you” to have more
impact than my, “I’m sorry.”

I would want to be fully alive in every moment
and be awed easily.

I would want to spend every day with the people I love
the most, giving and getting the most out of life.

lf today was the first day of the rest of my Life, I would
want to express that I love God, I love my family, and I am
grateful beyond words for GREAT FRIENDS. I would
give God my PRAISE for enabling and empowering
me to Think, Be, and Do what I love.

And …

I would find a way to make the past, both good and
not so good, work something in me, to make me
more like Him whose image I bear.
What would your version say?
