Santa Claus is a popular mythical (or is he?) character who has been around for hundreds of years. Although Santa may not be real to everyone, his leadership lessons certainly are!
All great leaders have one major common denominator: Great Vision.
Santa is no different. I imagine him regularly casting vision, painting an inspiring picture of the importance of what the Elves do and why they do it. He helps them see they do not just make toys. Rather, they make the dreams of children come true!
Santa does not see the Elves as employees or even toy makers … he sees them as passionate dream makers! Similarly, your employees are not simply employees either. But, have you helped them see “what” are they? Are they passionate about what they do and why they do it? Studies have shown most employees are not fully engaged and do not know how what they do fits into the bigger picture. In most workplaces, purpose is unclear and passion is lacking. If this is the case on your team, cast vision. Help the team see that they are part of something bigger than they are.
A lack of passion in any area is due to a lack of vision. Where there is no vision there is no passion.
Follow Santa’s model and lead with vision … it will fuel your team’s purpose and passion!
