“The greatest gift you can give anyone is a healthy you.” – Leadershipology.com
God created every person with a spirit, soul and body. Many people recognize that they need to develop their spirit. I have grown up in church, and seen many spiritual people who read their Bible, attended church regularly, prayed and considered themselves to be good Christians, but responded emotionally the same way as people who weren’t Christians.
They also know the importance of fitness and taking care of their bodies. In America, $20 billion is spent each year on weight loss, and over 100 million people are on a diet at any given time. (Source) There are workout facilities in every hotel and in every city because people are aware of the importance of fitness and yet, no matter how someone improves their body they may never feel better about themselves.
When it comes to emotions, many of us never mature in our emotions because we feel powerless to do so. We have been wounded by some type of dysfunctional relationship. Yet, for those who choose to be emotionally healthy, they become a gift to everyone they come in contact with. The greatest gift you can give anyone is a healthy you. Emotionally healthy people are celebrated and emotionally unhealthy are tolerated.
My encouragement to you is to be one who is intentionally striving to be emotionally healthy. Here are 10 ways to move towards emotional health beginning right now:
- Acknowledge your need for God.
- Ask God to forgive you of whatever you have done wrong.
- Believe that God loves you no matter what.
- Forgive those who have wronged you.
- Refuse to be negative. (even if it’s the truth!)
- Refuse to be offended by what could offend you.
- Depersonalize criticism and choose to grow from it
- Commit your life to personal growth and development. (Which means listening to feedback/criticism without offense)
- Release bitterness about anyone or anything.
- Seek to add value to everyone’s life that you come in contact with.
Think about your emotional quotient (EQ) and what you can do to be healthy so that you can give the greatest gift you have to give, a healthy you!
