“Genius: a particular nature, disposition, aptitude, or character that directs one’s course of life.” -Webster’s 1828 Dictionary
In short, a genius is someone who can solve a problem that others can’t. They know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, why they need to do it, and because they are willing to do it, they are a GENIUS!
A defining characteristic of a Genius is that they know how to BENEFIT from problems that bring others to a standstill.
Each of us has the innate potential for God-given genius and it can be expressed through us in as many unusual and unique ways as can be imagined.
There are four core things that geniuses do to become great problem solvers:
- Geniuses identify THE problem. (the real or root problem)
- Geniuses A-A-P everything.
Assess...what has been
Address…what is
Progress…what can be
- Geniuses define the problem.
- Geniuses benefit from the problem.
There is more than one kind of genius! Two simple examples of this are technical problem solvers and relational problem solvers.
Technical problem solvers look at complex systems and readily comprehend how things work and where problems may arise. They are able to make the complicated seem simple in their minds and know how to solve problems that would confound others. Some people look at car engines and think, “That’s straight forward.” (That’s amazing!!!) Others, like me, look at an engine and think, “I’d better call a mechanic right away!”
Relational problem solvers look at interactions between people and readily comprehend what the individual parties need, and understand motives/expectations. These people are characterized by friends that often ask for relationship advice. They hear things like, “You always know just what to say.”
God has empowered you! If you only focus on areas where you struggle you may never comprehend the GREATNESS that God has put in you!
