Leadership doesn’t emerge by accident to produce results that are totally random. There is a subtle but perceptible strategy and rationale for the way leaders think. Let’s consider how leaders THINK. There are at least five distinct ways that make them stand out from the crowd.
1. Leaders Innovate and Create.
It might be a new product, a new process, a new system, a new theory, a new piece of literature or music, or something else innovative or inventive. They combine old elements in new ways, discover new uses for old substances, and explore new methods in hopes of greater effectiveness and efficiency.
2. Leaders Look for the New Angle.
Leaders often use unorthodox methods. The methods aren’t unorthodox to the LEADER – they make perfect “sense” to the leader. But the methods are usually not the traditional methods. Sometimes the new thing is simply a new way of marketing an old idea, old product, or process.
3. Leaders Persevere.
Leaders don’t give up. A leader may have to adjust methods and timetables and various details of a plan as life unfolds, but a leader refuses to give up the “big dream.” A leader cannot be “argued out of” his beliefs. He refuses to let others discourage him. He turns a deaf ear to criticism.
4. Leaders Associate with the Best.
Leaders exhibit amazing “upward mobility” for their time in history. No matter how you structure your team, I strongly recommend that you have a business-savvy person and a communications expert!
5. Leaders Are Motivated by Reward.
Leaders are headed somewhere and part of the destination they pursue has significant reward attached to it. Rewards naturally can take many forms. But legacy leadership lives with a Biblical Worldview, seeks supernatural reward, motivated with a Kingdom mindset. These leaders Think Kingdom, are purposed to leave a legacy for future generations, and lead others to Christ, the ultimate reward.
The way you think about leadership is a reflection of your greatness – what I refer to as your 1%. It’s one of the ways you elevate your uniqueness. Choose to think like a leader…and you’ll elevate your character and your goals. Choose to act like a leader…and you’ll elevate your achievements.
